History of Aberfeldy Highland Ball
The first Aberfeldy Highland Ball was held in January 1936, as an evening out for dancers who had met on a weekly basis to practice reeling. At that first Ball, held in Aberfeldy Town Hall, the League of Friends of Aberfeldy Cottage Hospital was chosen as the local charity to benefit from the Ball.
Since then, the Ball has been held on most years (but none was held between 1939 – 1951, or between 1962 – 1970, or in 1982).
The Ball transferred from Aberfeldy Town Hall to Taymouth Castle in 1971 and then to Blair Castle in 1983, where it has been held continuously since.
The 50th Ball was held in 2007, which was also the 25th held at Blair Castle.
The ball is organised by a committee of local people. The current chairman is Calum Mcdiarmid, the secretary is Alistair Irvine and the treasurer is Kate Mcdiarmid.
